About Bandeja

What it is

Bandeja is a free, browser-based organiser for social padel: Americano, Mexicano, Team Americano, Mixed Americano and King of the Court for 4 to 32 players. It is named after the bandeja, the controlled padel overhead every club player knows.

How the pairings are built

An Americano where every pair partners exactly once and faces each other twice is what mathematicians call a whist tournament. It exists exactly when the number of players leaves a remainder of 0 or 1 when divided by 4 (Baker, 1975). Bandeja ships tables of these designs for 4 to 32 players, found by a computer search and checked by automated tests.

When you have fewer courts than the design needs, the same matches are spread over more rounds, ordered so nobody plays much more than anybody else at any point in the evening. For other player counts a search builds rounds that minimise repeat partners, balance opponents and rotate sit-outs.

Mexicano rounds are made from the live standings (1st & 4th v 2nd & 3rd in each group of four). King of the Court moves winners up and losers down a court each round.

Limits

Americano, Mexicano and King of the Court are club conventions; there is no federation rulebook for them, so house rules vary. Time estimates are rules of thumb. Bandeja does not book courts, take payments or keep ratings.
